Jourdanton ISD has recently acquired the historic Big Chief from Red McCombs. As a school district, we understand the importance of honoring history and preserving the legacy of our community. Big Chief holds a special place in the hearts of many Jourdanton Indians, and we are proud to now own this iconic landmark. Jourdanton Boys placed 4th overall at the State Powerlifting Championship Meet in Abilene.
Senior Captain, Donald Parks placed 8th. Junior, Joseph Hernandez placed 3rd.
Stealing the show was Danilo Lugo!
With a squat of 775 lbs, benchpress of 570 lbs, and deadlift of 680lbs Danilo is the State Champion!!!
Danilo Lugo is now the state record-holder for deadlift and with 2,025 lbs he also broke the record for best total. These lifts earned him the award for “Outstanding Deadlifter”, and “Outstanding Total”.

This year Jourdanton High School started a new adventure with the ACE race team. The team will compete in April at the Freeman Coliseum against other local schools. ACE is designed to give kids a hands on approach to racing as well as the building and racing in electrical propulsion systems. The team consists of Zane Burnside, Ayden Yaws, Zack Staley, and Dustyn Wray, and is lead by Dustin Hunter. The JISD school board got to see TONTO in action tonight!
JISD is committed to the safety and security of our staff, students and visitors. As part of that, all students and staff participate in mandatory drills yearly. JISD has no current plans of participating in an Active Threat Exercise. We have attached excerpts of §103.1209 and §103.1211 to share the difference between the two.

That's a wrap! JHS Tennis won the first match this morning but unfortunately lost this afternoon. They fought hard!
The Jourdanton Boys Powerlifting Team are the Regional 5 Divion 3 CHAMPIONS.
The team is led by Senior Captain Donald Parks. Donald posted the heaviest squat and deadlift in the 220 lb. weight class. With a total of 1565, he is the Regional Champion.
Senior and fellow 220 lb. lifter, Xavier Tijerina, placed a hard-fought 3rd and lifted a total that advances him to the State Meet.
Joseph Hernandez, Junior, out-squatted and out-benched every other 181 lb. lifter. Joseph's total of 1515 earned him Regional Champion.
Finally, sophomore Danilo Lugo. Dani demolished his competition and brought home the plaques to prove it. He was awarded "Most Outstanding Squatter" (770 lbs.) and "Most Outstanding Bencher" (550 lbs.). He annihilated the previous Region 5 deadlift record of 625 with a lightning-fast 680 lb. pull. These personal bests combined to a Regional record-breaking total of 2000 lbs., which earned him the title of "Most Outstanding Lifter."
All placing lifters contributed to a total of 24 points for FIRST place team and your REGIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!
This Thursday, the Girls Powerlifting Team will compete in Frisco at the THSWPA State Championship. The Boys THSPA State Championship will be held on Friday, March 22nd in Abilene.
That's a wrap on day 1 of the State Team Tennis Tournament in Waco for these hard working Indians and Squaws! We'll head back out again tomorrow!
