🎨 Today in Mrs. Cook's Class: Color Monsters! 🧸✨

Today we had a monstrously fun time learning about emotions through a creative activity!

Each monster started out feeling a little confused — with mixed-up emotions all jumbled together. 😵‍💫💛💙❤️💚 But with some thoughtful discussion and lots of creativity, our students helped their monsters sort out and separate their feelings by color. 💛 Happy, 💙 Sad, ❤️ Angry, 💚 Calm, and more!

It was a great way to explore our emotions and how to express them — all while having fun with colors, craft supplies, and our imaginations! 🎨🖍️🧠

Way to go, Color Monster experts! 🧡

In Ms. Newman’s ELA class yesterday, students became “noun detectives” as they investigated different types of nouns. They practiced identifying and sorting nouns into the categories of common, proper, and collective nouns. To apply their learning, students created original sentences using one example from each category and then presented their work to the class. This activity supported their ability to classify nouns, apply grammar knowledge in context, and build confidence in speaking and presenting.

We are now accepting gifted and talented referrals, the window to nominate a student will close on October 17, 2025. Forms can be found on the school website, or each campus office. You may also request a form from your child’s teacher. Students that are nominated will undergo a lengthy battery of assessments, which will be completed by April of 2026. After testing is complete, the GT committee will meet to determine qualification of students. Parents will receive a letter stating if their child qualifies. All kindergarten students will be screened in January 2026. Kindergarten students do not need to be referred. Parents will be notified if further testing is needed to determine gifted and talented qualifications. If you have any questions, please contact Katy Royal at khynes@jisdtx.us.

We are incredibly grateful for our volunteers, Austin Pesek and Jon Forrest, who generously donated their time and expertise.

They came and worked diligently to create a beautiful aquatic environment. The fish tank is now a calming and engaging addition to our classroom.

We are so excited to see the joy it brings to our students every day. Thank you again for your kindness and dedication to our school.

Fourth grade students recently completed a novel study of Because of Winn-Dixie. As part of their project-based learning, students constructed plot diagrams to analyze the text and demonstrate comprehension of key story elements. To conclude the unit, students participated in a culminating activity by reenacting the pivotal party scene hosted by the characters Gloria and Opal, bringing their literary analysis to life through collaboration and creativity.
